Question

I went for a alignment today and they told me they needded a specail tool to punchout the holes in the upper control arms. Are these guys pulling my leg? It would be for the caster/camber settings. By the way its for a 2002, 1500HD 4x4.

Do you need to pull the upper control arms to do this?

Absolutely not. That was the old days with the knockouts that had to be cut or pressed out.

Do you have any pictures of my upper control arms showing the plastic inserts? I would love to see where the knockouts are.

It's not a "knockout". It's just a piece of plastic that fits into the opening of the adjuster cam. it's the shaded part to the right of the nut in this image. It's just a piece of plastic that pops right out.

Yeah, you need a special tool. It's called a screwdriver. Your truck doesn't have knock-outs like the old ones. There are just these little plastic inserts that pop out in about 2 seconds with a screwdriver. They're just thrown away and not reinstalled.

Either they're pulling your leg, or they don't know what they're doing. In either case, you might want to find a different place to align it.
