Exhaust Mods as a Start - '95 5.7L V8 Sub

Dear Group,

 

1995 4X4 1/2 ton 5.7L V8 Suburban

 

I am having my tired transmission (225,000 km) rebuilt with several upgrades anticipating some engine mods at a later date likely along with its rebuild. (intake, cam) The transmission presently has a TCI shift kit which will likely be maintained.

 

As a start to my upgrades I plan to install, on the recommendation of my mechanic, the Edlebrock TES headers, a high flow CAT and CAT back system.

 

1) Should I be concerned about any low end torque loss with this setup due to lack of adequate backpressure?

2) Any recommendations on brand for the CAT back system?

3) Should I plan on a custom tune (Westers) after installation?

If you do the exhaust, modify the intake as well. the more air you move out, the more you have to replace.

TBI sucks, and I don't believe headers will help, in all honestly, all exhaust will do is sound good on a TBI.

 

Its going to be hard to get power from that without the proper compression and cam.

 

When my 350 comes out again, its getting stroked, everything else is just crap even on a 350 vortec, 350 tbi is just that much worse.

 

If I were you, I'd get it stroked beofre anything.
