My new 85 brigadier

The gravel pit I do buisness with for my small farm is getting rid of a 1985 GMC Brigadier 7000 6 wheeeler with a 6-8 yd dump body things I know about the truck

 

 

 

All within the past couple of years

pros:

6 new tires

rebuilt detroit 6v71

new turbo ( thats a little older)

rebuilt tranny

brakes all the way around

 

cons:

 

dump body needs to be welded or replaced the outside of it is rusted thru in some spots

 

there has been very little mileage since all this work, they used one season after it to plow and sand and then picked up several more triaxle dumps so its just sto small for the operation now

 

 

I am getting it for cheap and it really is all there its not a scam

 

 

I am not familiar with this model so looking for the good bad and the watch out fors and pay attention too's

Those were pretty good trucks. No real cronic problems, and parts are still in good supply. You stated it has a 6V-71, but that engine was never offered in the Brigadier 7000. It should have a 6V-53T. The Brigadier 9000 came with the 6-71 inline 6 or the 6V-92 V-6. All Detroits leak a bit, so don't worry too much about minor oil drips. You didn't mention what transmission is in it, Detroits run best at governed speed, so the more gears the better. Watch out for excessive cab rust, same as anything. Pay close attention to the areas under cab near the cab mounts. That's about it!

I have a GMC Brigadier with a 6-71 and a Spicer 5 speed with an Eaton two speed rear end. I don't know what year this truck is and nobody I've asked can seem to tell me. The VIN is as follows: XH1 9670 A D 5059 J. Also, can anyone tell me the proper shifting sequence for this truck?
