Help! Radio Wiring question....?

I own a 1988 GMC 1500 Sierra with cassette and the little EQ thingy. I want to know the wire color and function for the radio & speakers. I am trying to install an aftermarket radio. Just need to know what color goes to what.

Do yourself and the next guy down the road a favor and don't cut the original wires.

Get an adapter harness from Metra or another company.

 

Makes it a lot easier to install since you can make your connections on the bench instead of upside down in the truck with your arms in the dash up to your elbows.

get the harness it makes it a lot cleaner of an install and its a lot easier this way you will know what each wire is for

I bought a wiring harness for it, but Im still lost lol. I've got the wires hanging from the back of the radio itself and the wires from the cassette player. Is the actual radio harness further in the dash?

 

 

Edit: Someone should explain that the main unit, also the main harness, is hidden underneath. Haha I just got my system up and running

Well I have a 91 sierra. I took the radio head unit out (The controls) and then the cassette player out. I was left with 5 bare wires and then a harness piece that didnt match up to anything. Follow all these wires under the dash and you"ll find yourself another little unit underneath. Take that out and unhook it it. And bam...there's what you plug your store bought harness into lol

Brn=Park Lamp

Yel=Dimmer

Red=Ignition

Org=Mem

Wht=Data

 

These are the wires from the reciver to the control head.
