Rattling

Recommended Posts

When I get up to highway speeds (+/- 60 mph) I get a slight rattling noise when my foot is on the accelerator. If I let off, it stops. It sounds like it is coming from under the hood on the driver's side. The noise is a high pitch, fast, vibration type rattle. To me, it sounds like something that is metal, small, and thin is loose and when their is vibration from the engine running at a certain speed it causes the mystery object to vibrate and produce a rattling sound. Sometimes it will do it when I accelerate fast and wind out the gears more causing higher rpms on the engine. Any ideas?

I don't know if this even applies to the HD's because I didn't look at mine before I posted this. I had a previous vehicle that had an annoying rattle only at freeway speeds and only intermittently. It turned out to be the plastic molding that was at the base of the outside of the windshield. It would vibrate from the wind at freeway speeds. I stuck a toothpick between it and the windshield and it stopped it from rattling.

I don't know if the HD's have this piece or not because I didn't go check and I can't see mine out my window right now, but the rattle was so annoying in my last vehicle and it was just by accident that I found it so I thought I would post it so maybe you could give it a shot.

Also I was convinced that the rattle was coming from under the hood too. Good luck.
