Hey guys,

I was wondering how many of you have installed an iPod in your car? I have my 20 gig with the FM transmitter in there right now, but didn't know if anybody had bought a kit to play it thru the factory radio or not? :chevy:

GMIP-01 is the part number, from AXXESS company...but they have not shipped yet...they told me it integrates perfectly and the ipod goes in your glove compartment...can use the steering wheel controls and everything is seemless...of course installation is a tad tricky the tell me, but the instructions are, according to them, very clear so you get it done right! The number is 800.221.0932...give them a call and see if they tell you the same thing, the tech guy said they have already shipped but dod not know a price...so, I am not sure what the deal is. http://www.lafayetteradio.com is their largest online dealer...I called them too...still do not have it...so how about giving them a call and see what they tell you? Let us know, I know a lot of people who would like this! Later,:D:chevy:

Guys, think this over before you buy a direct access device.

I have an Ipod interface for my Alpine. It shows up as a disc changer, cool!

NOT COOL! Do you know how many songs you can put on a 20gb Ipod? I have only 13gb filled and there are 1300+ songs across 70-80 artists.

OK, so you like Night Ranger? There is no way to go directly to the N's with any device so you click, click, click, click, click (starting to get it?) until you get to Night Ranger, or whatever.

You are MUCH better off using either an Analog input or an RF input device and controlling the Ipod with your hand. You can get from Abba (Abba? Ugh, who said that?) to Night Ranger in about three seconds on the Ipod.

Save your money. Until they have a way to go directly to anywhere in the alphabet you want there will be too many songs/artists to sift through. I'm looking for a way to connect a small laptop (with Media Player or some other jukebox to my TNR and access the music from that!! I get a chubby just thinking about it.

By the way, anyone want to buy an Alpine Ipod interface? They're COOL! :chevy:

I agree with you on that point, it would be tough searching manually like that...but I am waiting for the info on the unit before I make a choice...when I get that I will let everyone know what I find out. I would guess they have a way to go through A-Z using a button on the radio or wheel...but you still would have to flip through the individual artists...we will see what they have for us...later, :D:D:chevy:

Chad, all you need to get is an auxiliary input adapter. It plugs into the CD changer data port on the back of the HU. This isn't like the Dension or other kits that allows you to use the HU's controls, or steering wheel controls. It allows you to control your I-Pod with its own controls, and not the HU's or steering wheel controls. No need to worry about scanning thru your entire library with the HU controls. The sound quality is incredible, because it is NOT an FM modulator. Check this webiste out...Logjam Electronics

Here is the end result...

Thanks man!! I am going to look into that. I will have to find a different mounting location since I just got XM installed and it is sitting right there. :chevy:

Yeah...they have different mounting sites for that clip. Check out this site...ProClip USA, they have some good stuff. Also, I had to use a signal spliting switch (the switch you see in the pic) to separate the two sources...I was getting some interference. You won't have to worry about that if your XM is modulated...good luck. :chevy:

I have a Creative Jukebox that I've been using now for two years in my truck. I always just use the 'shuffle' (or 'play any track' on mine) function, and listen to random tracks. I rarely search for a particular song.

My question for you, Mr. Bond  , is this: with your device, would I be able to use my seek button on my steering wheel to advance to the next random song if I were listening to an Ipod in 'shuffle' mode?

If so, I'd buy one.

Hey Guys, here is what I found out from Metra about the GMIP-01 unit that is currently backordered for the next month or so...

FROM MATT C. AT METRA!

OK. Here's the situation. These have shipped, but the orders that were shipped were from preorders. It is a valid piece and shipping but, it is on heavy, heavy backorder for the GMIP-01. So heavy that they are not taking orders for them at the moment. This is rare and it hopefully will be off "not shipping status" soon. I hope this clears this up for you. As far as shipping status, check with us every month or so. If you want you can call, that may be easier. The number here is 1-800-221-0932.

As far as the Ipod functions, the CD/AUX button will select/deselect the IPOD. SEEK up and SEEK down will track up or down a playlist. NEXT and PREVIOUS will track up or down within a playlist. DISC/SIDE functions as a playlist up button. FF will perform fast forward, REW will perform fast rewind, SCAN will track up once every 10 seconds until performed a second time and RDM toggles random operation.

I have asked him about the A-Z function, but I think we have to program playlists (up to 12) in either alpha-order or genre...not sure if we can go from one specific song to the next...will keep on it though, it does sound like it integrates well! Later, :wtf::D:cheers:

It's not backordered. They should be at all Circuit City stores by now. I went and got mine last week. See this forum: http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcn...ic,45279.0.html

Great! I'll call Circuit City in Tuscaloosa tomorrow and see what they say. If anyone else tries another Circuit City, let us know if you have any luck.

I don't have sterring wheel controls but I'm going to say no. As a matter of fact I can't do any search/advance function with my Alpine remote while in Ipod mode.
