how about cutting away air , noise damper

On many newer 5.3s the air intake tube has a strange plastic extention that im told was put there to drop noise. Now Im thinking that if that were pluged or removed and capped would that increase air flow? Maybe like a air charger system.

what do you think guys

Units like the K&N FIPK system eliminate the weird intake tube. They go with a straight free-flowing type of air intake tube.

if you did do that the only difference you would be able to notice would be a louder engine bay

I agree, I've done whats described on other vehicles, and it just made more noise... no real performance gain that I could tell, at all.

I installed Airaid MIT replacement tube (about $100) on my 6.0L suburban. Essentially this is a straight through tube eliminating the "wierd tube". I did notice more noise during acceleration at first. Maybe I was just listening for it, because I do not notice this now. The positive part of this is that my freeway MPG went from about 14 to 15.5. They include new hoseclamps and an adapter for the end, took me about 10 minutes to install. This is a link to their website:

I did this also to the 04 Pickup, did notice it being louder, didnt do anything for mileage though.

The 'strange plastic extension' performs two functions.

1) it is a 'Helmholz Resonator' significantly reducing intake noise.

2) it provides a reservoir of available extra air at throttle 'tip-in', without it you will experience a slight hesitation on acceleration from closed or low-throttle situations.

HTH.
