anyone fit new 17" wheels and 285/70/17s

Hello I was curious about back spacing and tire size on my 2004 Z71, I am in the process of getting a body lift done and I am not sure if I should stick with the 265/17s I have right now and new wheels or try the 285/17s with the wheels, I am looking at the American Racing Wheel Baja, I'm just worried because I had a heck of time about 3 years back with my ZR2 when I did a body lift and bought American Racing wheels called Sliders, the place doing it said 32" tires would fit fine on it with the body lift but with the back spacing of the wheels they never did fit so I stuck with the 31" tires. I wanted to check and see if anyone on here has done this size and changed the wheels on there Silverado, thank you.

My brother has a '05 Z-71 with the 285/70-17's on the stock 17in wheel. He does not have a lift on the truck, but he did raise the front end up via the torsion bars. He has absolutely no issues with tire rub at all. hope this helps!

thanks for the info! yeah I was reading on this site and read that several people did use that size tire with the factory set up, I was just worried about gettting new wheels if they would still fit, I am getting a body lift installed this week and also have the new Baja wheels on order but not sure if I should stick with the 265/17s or get the 285/17s, with back spacing issues I was not sure, thanks again.

 Just finished installing a FabTech 3" spindle lift on my 2WD Crew Cab, 4.8L. I added BFG 285/70/17 A/T KO's on stock 17's with very little tire rub on the lower valance. Had to trim about 1/4". Look is awsome!

i have the BFG 285/70/17s on right now, but i also have a 6" lift set at 5". Absolutely no rub (obviously). the 285's have a closer diameter to stock so you can still use the spare. If i got 35" then i couldn't use the spare anymore and i only use the truck for road trips or towing my boat

I am running 285/75/16 with absolutely no rubbing, no torsion adj. Completely stock. A friend of mine put 305's (same height as the 285) on his 03 Silverado with a 3'body lift and he had no problems.

I have 285/70/17 toyos and American Racing Victors on my 05 z71. Fit perfectly with torsion bar crank.

Holy Dead horses, you can fit 285s on a stock 17" rim on a stock silverado Z71.

Here is a 2006 Z71 CCSB 5.3L with 33x11.5x17 (or 285 70 17 tires per BF Goodrich MT KM specs). They DO NOT rub at all, full turn full flex you name it. They do pull harder then BFG AT KOs or anyother mud tires i've see to be honist. Nitto Mud Grappler doesn't have dukie on these. I walked holes in 2wd that I would never attempt with my Bridgestone Deualer ATs in 4wd.

Any questions?

Do you have the T-Bars cranked on that thing? It's the same as my truck (except Z71) and I love the look. :chevrolet: I am putting on skid plates this spring so I can go offroad with a little more confidence. I don't like the idea of putting the front end under too much stress, but I may change my mind to put tires like that on mine.

if 33"s cause the front end on the truck to fail they better rebadge this a Colorado. I ran 35s stock on my 150 for 70K miles without a problem. I sure hope that this is the same. The bars are NOT cranked, they are as they were from the dealer. The truck actually rides like a truck now, the wind doesn't blow it all over the highway no does it wimper when going over curbs.

dont go with a body lift man! body lifts are nothing but junk. They raise up the body away from the bumpers and if you do relocate the bumpers, it takes them off of the vital mounting part of the truck, the frame. Not only that but they make huge gaps between the frame and body and make it look ugly. You can always use new torsion bar keys with a different bend in them that raises the truck at the same setting as stock torsion keys.

Hi all this is my first post here and glad that i found a place to chat about my truck and get to know new people who share the same intrest  ,

I was just reading through wondering the same question as to what is the Max tire size i could fit on my 2006 - GMC - 1500 Z71.

When i first bought her from the showroom she had 265-70-R17. So i asked about and did some search but had no luck. So i took a chance and just went tire shoping and looked at various options and wanted aggressive look rather then stock.

So i tried the below and just bought them after trying 1 on, ofcourse i did make sure no rubbing at full turns and so far i am very happy with them.

I thought i had no choice other then 265-70s as i dont plan to lift yet so i am glad that i did not have any problems with rubbing or triming nor did i play with the torrsion bars

Here is the full specs on the Cooper STT's : http://www.coopertire.com/Flash/index.aspx

By the way i have tried all the following Tires on my Old TJ:

Good Year MTRs

BF ATRs

BF MTRs

Intreco - STS

Michelen - LTX

Geolanders
