ATC encoder $$$$

My transfer case don't engage when i need to put in 4x4 hi or low , and sometime when i swicth to 2 hi or to 4x4 or...it goes on neutral with a real bad grich!!!!!!!!!! so i went to GM dealer and this guy changed the encoder (the small motor just beside the transfercase) and this encoder only, cost 1000$$$ can. IT's a real small piece of ... and i'm desapointed by GM by this outrageous piece price !!! and the tech plug the TECH2 and it gives no code , i'm satisfy by the dealer and these services... a good gang of mecano but the total of this adventure cost

I can buy the encoder motor for my 03 truck for $350 from gmpartsdirect.com. They may have charged you too much.

Yeah who ever did the work took you to the cleaners.Like the last poster said the piece is around 350 from direct or prob around 5 or 6 from the dealer.And even if it is a grand for the part absolutly no way would labor run another grand on to the bill.

It would be intresting to hear what a gm tech thinks but that sounds very high for just a little encoder motor, seeing as how you can do a tranny swap with a brand new tranny for cheaper.Heck most places would rebuild a v8 motor for less then 2 grand.
