Swaping XM tuner for Sirius -- Possible?

Recommended Posts

ok, someone posted that this was possible and told had been done. Said there was a post on it in this forum. I searched all the way back through the end of last year and I can not find it. If you know if this can be done, or have done it please let me know.

I have factory XM. It is a rather small little unit that is mounted directly in back of the glove box compartment. It is like 7" wide, 4.5" tall and maybe 1.25" deep (as it is mounted). I would love to be able to just unplug the harness and antenna from this XM unit, remove it and plug back into a Sirius unit.

Is there anyway of replacing the OEM XM tuner with a Sirius? If i can use the same antenna, 12v, signals, etc... that would be great.

You won't be happy with Sirius, it just dosen't stack up.

I have both services, I started with sirius and now have bought 2 xm recievers, and am running out my sirius subscription.

Cool,

Not sure why you say that. My ex had XM in her car and I really didn't care much for it. I attend NASCAR events alot and both camps are there. I have also demoed Sirius on the web. MUCH better ROCK! ! ! I think XM vs Sirius depends on what you listen to. I'm mostly a rocker, new and old. I've delt with both and I think Sirus is better.

Now back to the question, can I just swap out the XM tuner for a Sirius one? Read my original post.

Thanks,

Amos,

You did good. Thanks for the help. I think this will get me where I want to go since I don't care if I lose XM. This may get more complicated due to my iPod interface but it is a good start. I can research it from here.

Thanks!

I am using the factory gm xm antenna with my alpine sirius tuner and alpine headunit. You should be able to do the same instead of installing a new antenna
