Brake Controller install

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

just bought a 2005 2500HD Duramax CrewCab yesterday, coming from an Avalanche. On the AV I had an RV dealer install a Tekonsha Voyager controller, I removed it from the AV yesterday and need to install on the 2500 now. The RV dealer had put a Chevy connector onto the controller...is there any way to tell, or does anyone know if this will work on the 2500? or would I need to re-wire it?

Incredible truck....the real deal.

Thanks for any help.

Joe

If the RV dealer put a current version harness on you should be able to just plug it in and go. It plugs into a socket under the dash.

You can check the wires by going to the Tekonsa site and looking at the wire configuration for the GM wire harness:

Apparently the 2005 takes the one listed for 2003-2004 (3015). The only wire moved from the prior to 2003 is the red wire that goes to the brake light.

AV was a 2003.

I compared the harness that came out of the AV with the one that came with the 2500...they don't look the same, AV with 4 used pins, the 2500 with 5,. not sure why that is.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and use the new harness that came with the 2500.

Thanks guys!

The Voyager only uses four wires. I expect you will find that those four have the same location on both harnesses. The harness that came with the 2500 will just have one unused wire after you connect the controller.
