duck truck stalls on highway

my dad has a 1996 5.7L vortech 3500 dump truck with dual tanks....

 

when going down the highway at any speeds it just shuts off..... no spit and sputter or anything just turns off (stalls)...... then has to wait a few mins before it will start again.

 

also cold starts are hard to having to leave the key on for a minute before it will start.

Check your fuel pump or your fuel pressure. If the pump is getting weak or low fule pressure, it might be havin a hard time pumping the fuel up to the motor on inclines.

Dittos, on the fuel pump. What your describing sounds a lot like what happened to ours right before the pump finally gave out.

does it happen when he lets off the gas?

 

or when he's on the throttle. if he lays off the throttle and it dies, it could be a switch in the tranny. I'll respond with maore later if that is the case.
