Silverado from Hell **UPDATE**

Update to the Vibrationmobile.

Dealer did a Road force balancing..... (Luckily the closest dealer to me is one of three in West MI to have the machine)

We'll see what that did....

I still dont understand why the charges for balancings... this is the third time in less than 2000 miles. It is obviously an ongoing problem....At least to me it is....

I'll give an update after I pick up the truck.

Well, the right frt weight was 1.75oz off and the rest .50-.75.

I have not driven the truck a great distance to see if the tires heating up will get it vibrating, but it is the smoothest it has ever been.......

budone, I understand your frustration. I'm old enough to remember when the tire dealers would spin balance your tire/wheel/brake assemblies on the car with a friction machine under the tire. That is the only way to balance a tire. The computer balancers only balance the tire and wheel, not the whole reciprocating assembly. I've got General Americrap tires on my new 05 Silverado Crew Cab and will be purchasing new tires shortly. They are horrible tires.

Budone,

I had a truck that had a very similar problem. Mine was centered around the tires, which were some kind of Goodyears... As soon as I replaced the tires, the truck started virbating all over the road. I took it back for them to rotate and balance every 3 weeks or so for five months, and they never could fix it no matter how they balanced the tires. I finally got irritated enough to get Goodyear to give me another set of tires "Just to see if the problem was tire related." Sure enough, the problem went away immediately! They later came back and said that there was some form of defect in the tires. So you may start pushing for a new set of tires to see if the problem goes away... it is a fairly cheap fix for the stealership.

Thanks for the info. I have still have not made a trip long enough to raise the tire pressure.... but believe me if it vibrates, I will demand new tires.....

Another update on the Silverado and the vibration which I have had since day one. It is still there.

Last week, I took it in again and told them it is NOT the tires. Look at the suspension, look elsewhere.

So a Universal joint was replaced. Now it vibrates at all speeds. :seeya:

So I decided to stop by yesterday while the vehicle was hot and very noticably vibrating. I was able to get the Service Director out for a 1/2 hr drive.

He felt it immediately. Went at different speeds and at 61 it is the worst. You can hear the vibration (almost a roar) at that speed. He says it is the drive train or transfer case. So it will go in next Tuesday and will stay until he is satisfied it is fixed.

While there I told him of a new issue. It started last week and what happens is if you have the truck running or just in the on position, there is a popping noise (like a coffee purcalator) coming from we think underneath where the center console would be, below the floorboard. If you shut the truck off or turn the key to off, it quits. Cold or hot, it still does it.

This issue really perplexed him. When we were back at the dealership, he immediately placed the truck on the hoist and both of us were underneath trying to determine where it is coming from. But underneath with all the shop noise we could not hear it. But it was still occuring.

Anyone ever have that issue and what do you think it is????????

Also I did tell him that I requested the suspension be looked at when the truck was in last Friday, thinking that may be the reason for the vibration. I told him I suspect it was not looked at, or it was and someone got happy with the grease gun as the drivers side upper ball joint boot has grease oozing out from all around it.

Sounds like the havac temp motor. Try moving the temp to warm and see if the popping stops. If it does,it`s the motor.

Dang, I go to the truck, turn up the heat and the purcolating quits.... Should I let the GM dealer try and figure it out, or give them the info????

It is amazing, locally nobody knows what causes it, yet, one message on here and from somewhere unknown I am told the issue......

This site is awesome....

Thanks all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure the vibration is in the truck and not just the sh**ty Michigan roads?

Hey, we represent that! The key is determining if the truck is vibrating when the wheels are on the ground or airborne.

Not too hard when you work at a chev. dealer. BUT i`m the only one there who has figured that out. Amazing isn`t it. Tell the sob to change the motor. Hope someone believes you.

I wish it was that easy!!!!!!! This will be the 6th time in. If I am not satisfied, I will then start the Lemon law Process.

Todays update on my vibrating truck.

One, they replaced an accuator (that must be the heat control someone spoke of)

Two, they replaced the rotors

Three, as for the vibration, they felt it, but can not fix it. They presented (what I was told was a TSBby the dealership. I hear now it is not one) but it is a form stating GM knows of the noise in the transfer case that occurs between 57-65mph that disappears when the vehicle is place in 4WD, but there is not a fix...... Ok that addresses the noise.

However, I still have a constant vibration. It used to be between 57-65mph, but since they replaced the U-joints almost two weeks ago, it is at any speed.

How that is tied to the noise issue, I do not know, so after 6 attempts, the truck still vibrates......

This keeps up, I'll have a new vehicle built out of replacement parts.

Hate to say it, but it might be about time to look up the Lemon Laws for your state...

I already have and sent out the two letters that start the process Monday. Wish me luck,

In Michigan you only need three instances within two years.

6 in 6 months should fall into that category. We will see.

Also the service information Bulletin is #1679169 Dated June 28th 2005

Hey budone, I'm in Michigan too, Lapeer county, and had the same vibration thing with my 02. If you get a chance and need a novel to read, do a search on my post from last year on the 02.......just start at the beginning. I had a battle on my hands, but came out with an 05.

Good luck on your truck, hope you don't have as many hassles as I did. Let us know the outcome.

:( Lisa

    • The oil filter has NOTHING To do with oil leak. GM sources parts from 1,000's of vendors and as with anything mass produced, flaws are unavoidable.    Putting a larger oil filter will do nothing but satisfy emotions. The OEM filter is designed for the engine and perfectly capable of handling the demands on the engine. Oversize oil filter could result in reduced flow and overall lower oil pressure.
    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
