Vehicle Stalling

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban LT, with 57,000 miles on it. It is everything I ever wanted, but the vehicle shuts off completely with no advanced warning, causing loss of power. This has happened twice within one week and of course you are unable to steer. It has been at the Chevrolet dealer for 1 week now, they have literally drove my Suburban more than I have!

I have found several complaints online, but no one has mentioned what it is and how they fixed it.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thank you very much!

My uncle recently mentioned a problem they'd had with their Suburban that could be something to look into anyway. His symptoms were a little different however ... I think initially it died on him and then when he did get it restarted it spit and sputtered horribly. I forget all the details but anyway he took it to the dealership where he'd bought it (used). One of the techs happened to know exactly what to look at ... from what he understood it was some sensor that detects the type of fuel being used. Yes, TYPE, not octane. It turns out that he'd purchase a vehicle set up for "FlexFuel" and they never told him nor did it show on the window sticker. So they replaced the sensor and it's been fine since. Just a thought and I sure there are others MUCH more knowledgeable than myself that could shed some light on this or maybe even rule it out in your case.

That happened to me once with my 2001 Suburban (1500 2WD) when it was pretty new. They reflashed the computer and it never happened again.

This is great! Thank you very much for the imput, I really appreciate it!! I just spoke to the dealership and it has not died on them at all. They have put 65 miles on it so far with no complaints. Of course, it had to die twice on me during my 1 1/2 days of driving it. And believe me - it gives no warning. You just pray that you can get it to the side of the road!
