They told me I shouldn't have had to disconnect battery, so I just put in the new tune and had to do the passkey relearn procedure. In your opinion should I have disconnected the battery? Also how long does it take for the new tunes to learn your driving? They told me 60 miles.

You did fine! No battery disconnect needed for a PCM swap. Usually 50-200 miles to completly learn!

I disconnected mine just to be safe and I didnt have a problem of with the relearn.

do the trucks run like ass until the relearn is complete? when i reset the pcm on my camaro it is good to go in 10-15 minutes (idle or driving). runs like ass for about 1 minute

make sure you dont have the bolts too tight on the ecm. saw someone else have a problem and the bolts were too tight.......... just tighten a little past snug.

I've installed a few and have never disconnected the battery.

During the relearn, the most I've noticed is a bad idle for the first few miles. Almost feels like it wants to stall but never actually has.

There is an idle relearn procedure to quicken that process... but I've never done it. I just live with it and gets better pretty quick.

I've had relearn take from 100 miles to 350 miles....

I have read on a few posts on other tuner forums that after installing a tuned PCM you should cycle the key from the off position to the on position to clear the ram memory of the pcm used during the tunning process.

I could not get a clear answer on this and if it only matters when the PCM is programed thru the OBDI port while installed on the Vehicle.

For whats its worth when I installed my tuned PCM, I disconnected the battery first & then proceded to remove the old PCM & install the new PCM then reconnected the Battery & then cycled the Key a few times to clear the RAM.

No issues with Idle relearn or case relearn needed. for me Truck ran like a bat out of hell from the get go and only got stronger from there.

If memory serves me correct, even if you have the key in the off position there is power still going to the PCM. Thats why your PCM does not have to relearn your driving style everytime you start the vehicle. Only needed when you remove the PCM.

Better safe than sorry, only takes a few minutes to pull the battery cable.

My paperwork from Westers reads "You may (recommended) disconnect your battery before PCM swapping..." That was the first sentence of the instructions.

I followed the instructions COMPLETELY, and it runs like a champ, never any hesitation!
