Does anyone have any experience with the Roll n Lock tonneau Cover? I have a 2005 Sierra w/ the crew cab and I am looking for a tonneau cover that is waterproof and a good warranty. The fold a cover is a couple hundred cheaper fut only has a 1 year warranty. Any suggestions?

I have had 2 and like second design best. Got the best price at JC Whitney on both.

redvett,

I checked jcwhitney.com and didn't find the roll n lock cover. The closest thing to it was the Pace Edward cover.

Also the local car shop that sells the roll n lock here says that it is all clamped on, no drilling necessary. Did you find that to be true. According to roll n lock's website, drilling is necessary.

Thanks for your time.

I researched the same covers and never was completely sold on any of the retractable covers. They all were between 900 - 1200 dollars installed, which I thought was pretty steep. A local Accessory store steered me away based on them having problems with the Roll N lock staying aligned properly, and if your in and out of it alot there may be a problem with the rollers getting dirty. I opted for the LUND tri-fold, clamps to the bed rails in less than 30 seconds, is completely removable, and has been waterproof so far. I paid $350, installed myself in under a minute, and am completely satisfied. For the money, I could replace this one 3 times for what the others are charging. I added a tailgate lock so the bed area is secure.

The roll n lock is made by Pace Edwards. Yes the second design is a clamp on and much better than the first design by light years. I am very happy with mine.

The fold a cover is a little cheaper than the roll n lock but the warranty isn't as good and I heard the fold a cover isn't waterproof.

I don't believe the LUND tri-fold is the same as the Fold-a-Cover. For one, I think the tri-fold is a soft cover, while the fold-a-cover is a folding hard cover.

As far as it being waterproof- mine isn't so that is true. However the amount of water that makes it into my bed is so small that I've stopped worrying about it. I even keep a medium sized cardboard box in the head of the bed with some stuff in it right now and haven't had issues with the little bit of water that has gotten in (despite some STRONG rainstorms here in western NC lately). I'd characterize the amount of water in the bed after the strongest recent storm the truck went through as two shot glasses full. I think this is on par or better than most of the rolling covers. About the only thing I know of that might be better (short of a topper) is a fiberglass cover, and those mainly because they hang over the bed all the way around.

Actually I think MY cover is better than the fiberglass. Has all of the benefits, but is much lighter and MUCH stronger. I regularly stand on it when washing my truck. The only draw back is that you cannot paint it (which actually saves you money).

Whoops. Forgot about that type of cover. I only saw those after I'd already bought my Fold-a-Cover, or I may have considered one of those. The only downsides that I see for some people (like me) are:

1) Can't fold it to expose 3/4 of the bed at a moment's notice (like when your wife decides to buy something at the store that won't fit under the cover)

2) Takes up more space when removed for storage (not much space for a full-sized cover on any of my garage walls right now)

It looks like it's lighter than the Fold-a-Cover and also like it removes easier (I have to remove a couple bolts between the front-most section and the second one back to remove the Fold-a-Cover).

What about the warranty. I have never owned a pickup truck before so this will be my first experience with a tonneau cover. Should I be concerned if the warranty is only for a year?
