Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement

I didn't write this it is from another chevy truck forum but worth the price of theivery I think

******Recently read in one of my fav truck mags that Borgeson is making a much better than oem intermediate steering shaft.I haven't found out a price yet but for us guys with no warranty left,I can't see replacing a bad unit with another just like it. June issue of StreetTrucks pg. 124.It says you can reach them thru borgeson.com or 860 482 8283

Finally able to get on their site,says $231 for shaft with vibration damper.I think that's pretty close to oem price without warranty isn't it?********

Definitely the way to go if your warranty is out. Another guy on the dieselpalce site went ahead and did this and was amazed at the results. Go figure, I just had my shaft replaced at the dealer under warranty about a 1/2 hour ago..15,000 miles.

Good info. Beleive that I'll get another 10k out of mine before the clunking becomes too irritating. Nice to find a good alternative. Thanks

my dealer said this problem is now covered up to atleast 80,000 miles

My truck is in the shop having this shaft replaced today. I have been waiting since November because of the back-order on this item.

I just purchased the OEM replacement shaft from "partszoneonline.com"

The PN is 89060582, price is $63.91 + S/H ($9.00 for mine) which is still cheaper than my local GM Dealer, who's charging $97.50.

I tried to pursue the warranty route, but the Service Mng. told me that he can not cover anything over 60,000 miles. My truck has 85,000

I also saw an add for the Borgeson shaft, but after I ordered the OEM one, oh well.

Has anyone had trouble w/ the OEM replacement shaft? I plan on installing the new one this weekend.

My '02 2500HD CC has been out of warranty for some time now and, as it always seems to work, the intermediate shaft didn't give me any serious problems until after the warranty was up. Found a thread either on this forum or on FullSizeChevy.com that showed the required part number and photos/directions for changing it. Took me less than 20 minutes in my driveway. Found a OEM replacement shaft on GMPartsDirect.com for a bit more than $60.

Considering that it took 60,000 miles for my original to get bad enough, at that rate, you can get 4 of the OEM's for the price of 1 of the aftermarket type.

Just a thought.
