Wester's gas mileage tune

Recommended Posts

I just got the wester's tune mainly for improved gas mileage and firmer shifting, and had 50 TM removed. I am just wondering what you all are getting with wester's tune. I have the 87 octane tune, and I am getting around 18 mpg. Which is mainly highway.

I have the Wester's "HOT" 91/93 tune and my mileage has been averaging 22-23 on the highway on trips. Lately in the city (I just moved to Knoxville, TN where it's really hilly) I've been getting between 16 and 18 depending on how much fun I'm having from light to light.

The setup for my truck is below. I've got a 3.42 rear end, so that probably helps on the highway. Stock I usually got about 19 MPG Highway.

I got the 91 tune last week. I'm still on my first tank of gas and I've been driving like a maniac. I couldn't really tell you if I'm getting better mileage or not yet. It can take up to 200 miles for the new core to learn the truck. How many miles you at?

Well I did have about 400 miles on it, then I put a airaid system on it, which means pulling the battery cables, so I am guessing the computer is still learning.

I just recently updated my westers tune.

I was running an 91/87 tune and was averaging around 15-16 mpg in 75% highway driving.

I upgraded a week or so ago to a 93/91 Hot tune. I have ran 3 tank thru it. Tank 1 was 15.5(had my foot in it allot). Tank 2 was 16.5(still enjoying the tune too much. Tank 3 was 17.7 mpg (driving habit back to normal.

I went to the 93/91 hot tune because I was addicted to the added power. I'm very impressed with the added power between the tunes. The added 1-2 mpg is just an unexpected bonus. I assumed the 87/91 tune would get better mileage but that wasn't true. With my oversized tires and driving style with 17-18 mpg is pretty awesome in my opinion.

Before any westers tuning I was getting 13-14 mpg.

What were you getting before the tune? Is 18 an increase over the pre-tune MPG?

I was getting around 17 to 17.5, 18 mpg on a good day. I know I am getting at least 18.5 on the highway the way the dic says. Just wondering if wester leans his tune out as much as you can?

the best I ever got before I got my tune and k&N fipk (but still had my pipes) was 21.5 but then school was over so I didn't have to make the trip anymore. but Friday I'm going to have to go back up there, so I can see how it does.

Before the tune I was averaging like 13mph. I just filled up for the second time on the tune today. I've been riding it a little rough and using the AC since its been around 100 :D I guess I'll have to see. The XUV sure doesn't get what the sticker said it would and that's for sure :D Of course my friend was quick to point out my new rims, tires, and the fact that I drive around a lot with the windows, sunroof, and rear roof open could be a big factor as well. :D

My mileage gains were about as impressive as my power gains- about 3mpg on the highway, not quite that in town. And, a lot depends on me, of course. Some days, I keep it about 13~14mpg in town, other days, I barely break in the 10s :D

It just tough getting these big tanks rolling, but once they're going and at cruising speeds, their economy can belie their size and weight.

On the highway, I can see 18 if I'm good, usually knock down 16+. I'm very happy with this. 'Specially as much fun as it is to drive :D:D

Also, the higher grade tunes will generally give better economy than the lower tunes, simply because the computer has the additional headroom built in; a lower grade tune can only go so far. I ALWAYS recommend the highest grade tune you can get in your area (and the customer is willing to pay).

BUT- very often- the added economy more than offsets the additional .10 per gallon. I try explaining that, but it's sometimes a tough sell...

BUT- every truck, every engine, every set of sensors is different. Results run the gamut- huge, like mine (heh-heh :P), some guys get worse. BUT the customer has to realize all the variables at work and be willing to try and retune a few times until the perfect combination is found. It's there, it just may not be the first one tried.

I just got lucky :flag:

Either that or my was the most neutered truck to roll off the line....

I'm guessing your truck is 2 wheel drive? What kind of tune did you get? Also I am not complaining about getting 18 mpg, just wondering if there is anyway to get more out of it, but not really wanting to go to a higher octane level. And when I get 18 mpg, that is driving back and forth to work, about 21 miles each way. The only time I get on the open road is going 70+ and then my mileage goes back down.

2wd and 3.42 gears. westers 93/91 hot tune. I'm hoping to break 23 mpg this friday. not sure if it's going to happen cause we might have to make a stop in Monroe, La. (fairly big city). Well we'll see.

Got a trip coming up tomorrow- I'm gonna see what I can REALLY knock down, not driving like a madman :jester:

I'm hoping to break 20... we'll see.

I think it has it in it :tear:

But, gawd, I hate driving slow..... 65 is as slow as it gets

Do a search (the search is working for me) on "Westers", there are a million posts on it...You're in one now, as a matter of fact

Yes, there are tunes for your truck.

MrQuadrasteer, if you don't break 20....I don't know...I've gotten close to 22 mpg in my '02 with no tune...That's keeping the cruise on between 65 and 69 mph and the AC on.
