Whistlin' tranny...

My '95 K1500 W/T whistles a tune when the clutch is engaged and the trans is in neutral (like sitting at a light). Once its warmed up it usually stops, but it ALWAYS stops when I push in the clutch. It has about 130k on the original clutch. Does this sound like the throwout bearing? Is it worth replacing separately or put in a new disc and pressure plate while I'm at it?

My '92 had what I assumed was a bad throwout bearing. Only mine was more of a rattle than a whistle. Same symptoms though, noise in N w/ clutch engaged. It started at around 50K miles and still did the same at 160K when I sold her. Still the original clutch.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets worse. Once you decide it's time to do it, then yes, I'd change out the disc and pressure plate. I think you may have to remove them anyway to get to the throwout. Also, put in a new slave cylinder.
