Noise

Dear Group,

I have a noise coming from the drivers side of the engine bay. It is characterized by:

- intermittent but porportional to engine RPM

- most notcieable if coasting along at say 1000RPM and a small accerlerator pedal push without forcing downshift

- also very noticeable when start up hill prior to downshift

- a pssst .... pssst .... psst sound

Had the exhaust (Edlebrock TES/Y pipe) checked twice, even removed, sealed and replaced but no improvement.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Glenn

Dear Juicy,

I would describe it as more of a knock than a tick.

Thanks,

Glenn

sounds like the dreaded piston slap or lifter tick, what kind of oil do you use? some report that the noise of the piston slap was reduced with a different kind of oil specifically mobil 1 fully synthetic 10w-30.. if you do have the piston slap, theres really nothing you can do about it, gm says "its normal"

check out this for info and specifiic mesage boards relating to your problem.
