Does anyone know of software for a laptop that turns your laptop into a scan tool? :seeya:  :seeya:

I use ODB2

Cheap simple. Really only use it for pulling/resetting codes and watching o2 sensors.

So download the free software, buy a cable (Which one?) and connect. Is that it? What cable is needed? I looked at both sites, but I'm still not sure what cable to use.

Can't find pricing? about how much was it?

$130 for Ford and GM together if I recall. You pick which 2 brands you want. It includes the cable. I do not believe you can use a generic cable as the brands ok to use are somehow stored or jumpered in the cable. Mine does not work on other brands besides Ford and GM.

You buy the whole package it includes the cable. You must use the cable for that program it is the only way it will work.

Any vehicle sold in us since 96 uses the same OBD2. So the scanner software will work on any OBD2 vehicle.

I have used mine on chevy trucks, toyota camerys, suburu foresters.

Here are 2 more low cost ($ 100.00 and less)

The one above you can buy plans to build your own cable or purchase a partial kit or a full functional cable. depends on yor skill level and $$$ you want to spend (all are less than $ 100.00). you can reset your computer for check engine light. but like al low cost scanners you will not be able to "program" your computer (will not do a case relearn)

I have not tried this one but it has a few col features similar to a G-tech, but it still has a scanner.

You can download the "FREE" software snd play around with them in simulation mode. If you like it then you order and pay for the cable to make it work.

My question is if there is a fully fuctional program that could do the same as a scanner, similar to the tech II i guess.  I would like the ability to force the CKS learn if needed.

There are no scanner programs that can do programing (like the tech2).

You are looking for tunning software. There are a few good ones out there but they are not cheap and have limited vehicle use license.

The new eflive program has an excellent scanner built in. wait4me performance is a dealer for this program.

HPtunners also has an adequate scanner feature.
