sgiangregorio Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I need a new set of tires. My OEM Wrangler AT/S tires last 70K miles. Not bad, but I want a more agressive looking tire with OWL (I have black now). My stock tire size is 265/70R17. I've decided on Bridgestone Dueler Revos. You can get these for a great deal at Costco, $153 tire, which is mounted and balanced, and included road hazard and lifetime rotation, balance, etc. Can't beat that price. Anyway, can I go any bigger than the 265/70R17 without modifiying the truck? It's all stock now, but it seems like it could stand a tire a bit bigger. Any ideas? I tried to search, but it's hanging. Thanks

Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm run 285/75/16 on my '03 tahoe. I have a very slight rub if I go thru a deep ditch and twist the truck good. The rub is on the rear shock mount but I believe it is due to the autoride. If I didn't have autoride I don't believe it would rub at all. My tires are pretty much exactly the same size as a 285/70/17. I think that should work fine on your truck. Only potential rub is on the shock bolt in the back if you twist the truck allot. I don't have clearance issue in the front at all but some people have had to slightly trim the lower air dam.
sgiangregorio Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 Thanks. But I may not be able to do this with Revos. There is no 285/70R17 listed for Revos...

Thought that was a common size. I did see that there is a 265/75/17 listed for the revos. That is only 2/10th an inch shorter then the 285/75/16 that I'm running and they are a little narrower. That might actually be a better option as the narrower tire should eliminate any risk of it rubbing on the rear shock mount. These will be the same width as the stock tire but 1 inch taller. I think they would be an excellent fit. I want the revo's my next go around but I want to try 255/85/16 and they don't make revo's in that size. Guess I'll have to do some shopping around. Good Luck. I think these trucks look much better with the taller tires on them. I would never go back to stock size on mine again.
sgiangregorio Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 You saw a 265/75R17? I can't find that on tirerack.com or the Bridgestone website. My goal is to fill the wheel wells a bit more. Not that the current size looks small, but I just like larger. Will this change, if it is available, change speedo sync? Can it be adjusted? Thanks

Thanks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry I misread they are 265/65 not 265/75 Yes tire size changes will effect speedo but a 1 inch change is pretty small. Not enough it would ever bother anything. You can adjust the speedo with a new PCM tune and get allot more performanceand MPG also. I recommend Westers but there are allot of good ones out there (nelson, wait4me, pcm4less.....) Looks like if you want REVO's on 17inch wheel you are stuck in the stock size. If you are interested in other tires I believe allot of guys speak highly of some BFG's
sgiangregorio Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 No problem, thanks for trying. I selected the Revo's based on 3 factors: 1) Recommendations here, 2) Ratings on TireRack.com, and 3) The appearance of the tire (aggressive). I'm open to listen about others though, if anyone cares to offer. I looked at the BFG TA/KO's and they didn't rate as well, but I know some of that is subjective. But tread life didn't appear to be as strong.

sgiangregorio Posted August 7, 2005 Author Posted August 7, 2005 I read that policy, but I've decided to just stay with stock, so it won't affect me.
