1989 silverado. 167,000 miles runs great. anyone know why the guages are going off scale high. fuel guage all over the place but mostly stays a 1/4 even when full. oil pressure reads very high almost full scale. temp guage will move to past 210 and eventually come back to normal. i don't suspect all the sending units would go at one time but don't know where to begin.

Sounds to me like.

1. Fuel guage has bad sending unit, probably has some corrosion or deposits.

2. oil pressue guage is bad. (I've seen a lot of that era p/u with bad oil pressure guages).

3. Temp guage is correct, probably a sticking thermostat.

Sounds to me like you have a bad ground on your instrument cluster. Look for ground wires where they attach to the floor panel or firewall, under the dash, on the driver's side. Verify each is making a good connection. (Check with ohm meter.)
