My father replaced his Delco shocks with aftermarket gas units. Now he is getting a light on the dash on his 2001 Tahoe which reads "service ride control". Is there any way to delete the fault codes from the BCM or remove the feature altogether? I assume someone out there has removed these shocks before. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmmm. Not sure on this one. The ride control module is requesting that the IPC display that message because the ride control module senses something is wrong... obviously because of the shock changeover.

The BCM, by the way, has absolutely nothing to do with this. Clearing codes in the ride control would... well, they wouldn't clear because the fault has not been corrected.

*MAYBE* (and that's a real big maybe) if you disconnected the ride control module (under the right side of the dash) it wouldn't be able to request that the IPC turn on that message. However, I'm not sure if the IPC will be looking for some response from the ride control and when it gets none, turn on the message anyway.

We don't disable systems in service, so I have no experience with trying to fool these things. What I'm telling you is only a guess of what MAY work.

Thanks for the reply. This is the best idea I have heard yet! I will let you know what happens. Should know more next week.

Did this work?

From what I can acertain you must find someone who can delete the feature from the BCM then repace the board for the autoride control with a blank circuit that provides a constant 4 ohm's of current as this is what the system is looking for to negate any fault codes that are generated. Also you will need to remove the compressor and all other sensors associated with the autoride/auto-leveling unit.

Now the question is are there any tuners or specialist shops out there who can do this?? There are many of us who are not happy about paying $1500 or more to replace our shocks!! Great work General Motors. Thanks for holding many Tahoe/Suburban/Denali and Cadillac owners hostage! :lurk:
