Need some feedback on price, MPG, etc (pics)

Back in February I bought a 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4cyl, 5spd, 4wd. Good little truck. No complaints other than 4cyl. While it turns in good fuel ecomony 22-23mpg it really lacks in power. My last three vehicle all (dare I say) had Dodge 5.9 liters. On the flip side, my first vehicle was a regular cab 89 Silverado One of my biggest complaints as well is that I have to trailer my quad because it's too big to fit in the bed of the tacoma. As well, I miss having 4 doors. A dealership near me has a 2005 4 door Silverado LS. Power windows, cd, etc. The downside is that it already as 20k miles. So I have a few questions...how is the 5.3 liter for fuel economy. I tend to have a light foot. I also now it won't fetch the 22-23 I'm seeing currently. Is the 5.3 a good powerful engine? Lastly there asking $23,500 for this truck. Is that good? Here's some pics.

I bought a 2003 ECSB Sierra with the 5.3L, Bose 6 disc, Power Seat, windows locks, cruise, Z71, etc and 21000 miles for $21K. I'd say your price is about right, might be able to work them down a bit.

 

If I drive like a sane person I average about 17-18MPG mixed highway and city. Only mods are a Flowmaster Cat-back that was on the truck already when I bought it. I love the 5.3 it has great power and really makes our big heavy trucks get up and go. I think it is the perfect trade off between performance and economy.

 

Edit: just realized that is a Crew Cab. I'd say the price seems pretty reasonable for that.

That seems like a reasonable deal. I am not sure where you are at, but the new 05 4x4 crews are going for about $27k here in the north TX area, with all the employee pricing and rebates. You may want to check the dimensions of your quad. The bed on the 1500 crews is only 5 1/2 ft.

I have a 04 crew and get 17mpg around town. The best hwy mpg I have gotten is 21 (strictly cruise control at 60mph).

Seems on ther high side to me considering that GM is giving new ones away at employe pricing

 

plus the millage is on the high side for 1 year old (what is the in service date?)

 

I would go in and offer them $ 20,000 to start, Dicker with them. Bring out the NEGATIVES (like 20,000 miles not even a year old & This thing is going to cost me a arm & leg in Gas ETC. ETC. ETC>) If it's got a clean bill of health I would not go over $ 21,000

 

The dealer owns it for $ 20,000 to $ 20,500, unless they stepped on their manhood to make a deal on a new vehicle sale.

Get the Vin # and ask someone that works at a GM dealership to run the VIN and get you any service details that are available (like in service date etc.)

I have an '04 Crew 4x2 LT (just purchased) with 4,500 miles on it and got it for $23,500 fully loaded (DVD player, Grille Guard, etc...).

 

I'm currently getting 14-16 around town (I have a light foot in this thing) and get anywhere from 18-20 on the highway with Cruise on. Now around town I'm only commuting in like 8 mile segments, averaging about 35 MPH with stop lights, so that's more like heavy city driving.

 

I definately think you can get the price down on that bad boy.

I was a little disappointed I went and looked at it tonight. The color doesn't look all that appealing in person. It had some good scratches, the cup holder was cracked, and the tailgate piece of the bed liner was hanging. All minor things, but for a 2005 it seemed pretty beat to me. I think I'll keep looking. Good judgement

 

Funny how less appealing something seems when you step back and take another look. Especally used vehicles. Once the excitement is over your eyes open up.

You can spend about 2 or 3 grand more and get one with 0 miles and no doubt the color and options package you want.It makes no sense to spend that kind of money on a truck that is already half way thru it warranty!
