What do green keys do again? And how hard is it to change the torsion bar keys? I just want enough to level the front with the back.

Check out (www.offroad-tech.com/tech/tb401/). It will explain Torsion bars and keys in great detail. Also, if you just want to level your front end you should not have to do anything except crank your bars up a bit and then get a wheel alignment. :D:D

The keys you are looking for are GM (Part #15592573). They are available from GM Parts Direct for $16.34 Ea. As far as lifting a non HD these keys will work on trucks with an 8600GVW or higher.

from what i read when you "crank up" your torsion bars it exagerates wear and tear on your ifs components.

is the same resulsts inflicted from changing your torsion bar keys around?

im looking for about 2" lift out of the front of my truck but i do not want to sacrifice ride quality or reliability.

does anyone make a high quality leveling kit, that does not hamper ride or reliability? i dont care how much it costs i just want to do it right.

That is true to a point, however raising your bars up about 1.5" should be OK, make sure you get an alignment after doing this.

Yes

Unfortunately, the higher you crank your bars the stiffer your ride will be because you are putting more load on the bars. If you use a heavier bar you do not have to crank up the keys so much to get the same amount of lift

Most leveling kits that I have seen are just higher indexed TB keys, I posted a URL on one of my above posts. Check it out, it explains a lot.

That will happen if you don't get it aligned after you crank them. As long as you get a good alignment done, you should not have tire wear problems unless you o extreme.

Green keys are the TB keys off of a 1/2 ton, if I rmember correctly. They are indexed differently than the 3/4 ton and can be used to lift those. If you want to lift a 1/2 ton you will need to use the Ford keys. I did this on the wife's Avy and drove it straight to the alignment shop afterwards. It did stiffen the front suspension up, but then it was too soft and soggy to begin with. Completed 8 months ago with no issues since.

i have had my t bars cranked up for about 55000 miles. to add about 2 inches of lift to my 4 inch ranco lift. the idler and pitman arm are only very slightly loose now. but at that mileage i think a stock truck might be in the same condition.
