Q's about Escalade gauge cluster & cargo carriers.

Hi folks,

 

Just bought a 2002 Z71 Tahoe the other day.  I'm loving it (especially coming from a '97 Wrangler as my daily driver).  Man, tons of ROOM!  Anyway...

 

I'm interested in possibly putting an Escalade gauge cluster in the vehicle.  Now, the ones you see on aftermarket parts suppliers sites, are they genuine GM clusters?  $285 sounds kind of cheap for a GM part like this -- but if it's genuine, then I'm all over this one I've seen.  Please advise!

 

Also, may be looking to add a Thule (or other) cargo carrier to the top of the Tahoe.  The Z71 has the unique roof rack, and Thuule (and some other sites) say they don't have a box/rails available for this roof rack.  Is the correct?  Does the design of the Z71 rack really preclude me from adding one of these boxes?  I can't imagine this being the case (but I defer to your knowledge).

For the cluster or any other GM parts talk to these two they sell them for what GMpartsdirect.com sells them for but they don't rape you on shipping.

Now, with the Escalade speedo being a 120 mph speedo, is there anything to "do" to the new unit so that the speed is shown correctly, or does the computer/new unit take care of all of that?

 

Also, is it really necessary to send the new unit out to have your mileage updated?  (I'm not interested in misleading anyone down the road -- it's just that my car only has 1000 miles on it, and I'm wondering if there are other alternatives to sending this cluster back out as soon as I get it...)

Joe -- Now I need more info about your grille!!!  Can I get a black one like that (I've only seen the Street Scene one in brushed & bright aluminum) for an '02 Tahoe?  Please point me in the right direction!
