Price posting at gas stations...

I went for a short drive this weekend, and noticed that all the stations on the highway didn't post the 3 ahead of the cents part. ALL of them had signs showing _.09 or _.29 for gas. Do they just not have enough 3's to go around? The dollar numbers are the same size as the cents numbers, so they should have enough I'd think.

I'm betting some Dale Earnhardt Sr fan is behind all of this! That, or maybe they think they can't be nailed for price gouging if they don't advertise the actual price?

I've seen that a few times. On my way to my parents place near DC this weekend, I saw a Hess advertising 1.19 from the highway. I knew they just didn't have a 3, but I had to make sure anyway :-\.

I would be embarrassed (sp?) to post a gallon of gas for over $3! I wouldn't put up a 3 either!

Just remember its not gas stations making gas that expensive. They only profit about 1 or 2 cents per gallon. Its definately someone else.......

Think about the amount of cars that drive around on a daily basis though... I figure one road here probably sees 10,000 cars a day, back and forth. Then there are 3 more roads just like it next to the first one. There is 40,000 cars driving in one day JUST ON THOSE 4 ROADS!!! (roughly, lol) If each car has a 20gal tank, thats... 2, 4, carry the 7.2 with the remander of 1... ALOT OF GAS IN ONE DAY! And thats only 4 measily roads in upstate, NY! Billions of gallons of gas are sold each day, i guess it was bound to happen, these prices that is.

Still though, we should be ready for this stuff!

Here in the Portland, Oregon area, we're not even close to three bucks a gallon. I suppose that you could go over to the yuppie West Side and some of the boootique gassers might demand it.

Locally, we're $2.59 to $2.73. I paid $2.69 for a fillup today.

In using the computer search, the price of gasoline on the Oregon Coast and rural Eastern Oregon is well over three bucks. I guess they figger that you are at least a gas tank from home, so you're not going to quibble about price.

It's interesting how location determines the price of gas.

Where I am in Quebec, Canada we are paying $4.19/gal in US dollars and gallons.

The stations do make more than 2-3 cents per gallon. If you don't think so, watch when they refill their tanks, and then raise the price several times while they are still on the same tank. Sure they may start the prices at only a few cents more than they paid, but by the time the tank nearing empty, they are charging significantly more than they started out. I've seen stations down here raise their prices 3 times in one day, and they didn't have a new shipment for another week after that.

We have 3's in CA ~ lawdy do we have 3's. Hide the 4's I can smell it coming. Something I'm noticing is sign replacement/redesigned to provide cash/credit pricing that we haven't seen for awhile. That says we are in for the long haul.

There is an interesting article on Foxnews.com today about gas gougeing and the new hurricane threat. Seems there was a study at a college in the northwest comparing price per barrel of crude oil to gas station prices. In the end, the historic marketup shows at our current pump prices crude should cost $95 a barrel. Hmm, and its around 65 now... Something is still amiss- Just something to think about.
