Buying Japanese?

Someone sent this to me. I've seen these $$ figures in various news sources, so they appear accurate and not your typical "internet hoax" email.

When you buy your next Japanese car, remember this...

International aid for victims of Katrina offered by other countries looks something like this:

Australia: $7.7 million

China: $5 million

Taiwan: $2 million

Tiny, starving Bangaledesh? $1 million

And Japan? $200,000. Could they spare it?

I think most of the world looks at it like this...Would you help pay Bill Gates parking ticket? Of course not, which is why most countries are offering such paltry sums of money.

We really don't need help with money, but yeah...That's a pretty lame gesture on their part.

I thought the countries listed above Japan gave quite generously. I think the point was Japan's miserly sum in comparison.

But Japan employs Americans and buys American goods (prescription drugs, etc). So whats the big deal?

What's the old saying...

Believe half of what you read and none of what you hear(?)

Of half of what you see and none of what you hear(?)

That said, I try very hard to post information that I know to be true on message boards like this. Sure, I could say my 8.1/Allison crew cab is gettin 15 MPG city with certain after market products (would be even better if I sold them and stood to make a profit), but that ain't right. I could say I got my truck for 22% off sticker instead of the 13% off, but again, that wouldn't be right.

Even though these "numbers" have been posted on media sites and reported by media does not make them true. Having worked for state government for 14+ years I know numbers can be "tuned" to make them look a certain way.

And as the richest country on earth, I would hope that other countries wouldn't feel obliged to send $$$ our way. Sure, it would be nice, since I'm sure we send aid their way.

Isn't that the truth...

I was reading something a while back that was explaining how numbers could be tuned. It had to due with deathes caused by smoking. But, with the methodology that was used that the original person used to come up with the "tuned" numbers, you could actually come up with numbers that would "prove" that smoking saved lives.

They don't buy nearly as many American goods as we buy Japanese goods. Japan doesn't really give a s**t about America...they just want us to keep buying Accords and Camrys. I'm not just saying that because they only gave us $200K...we don't need it anyway.
