HyperTech vs calibration shop

I plugged in a tech 2 today to recalibrate my tire size on my silverado 1500 and the range only goes up to 285-75-16... I got a 6 inch fabtech kit on it and I"m running 305-70-16's right now. My question is what is an average recalibration cost and who does them? I'm a GM Mech student and we have all the latest and greatest equip. My instructors just roll their eyes at me because of my mod's, so I can't get much help from them. I'm considering on getting a Hypertech programer to do the computer modifications needed for right tire size, proper shifting, and odometer readings but I don't really want to spend $320 right now as I'm saving for my $5k initial tool investment. If I found someone in the Cleveland area with a hypertech programmer, could I plug that into my truck or are they only good for 1 truck?

Hypertech is only good for 1 truck. As for programming, why don't you just get a custome tune? You'd pay around $70 for a reprogram for tire size and a wait4me tune is only $75 or $150 with a another PCM. I've had one of their tunes for about 2 weeks and 2500 miles and I like it. It was worth it just to get rid of the torque management alone!

Doesn't the Tech II have the option for tire diameter too in addition to tire size (ie 265/75R16)? If it does, you could measure by drawing a chalk line on your tire and the ground. Roll forward 1 revolution and make another mark on the ground. Measure the distance between the marks and divide by 3.14157 to get the tire diameter. It should be around 31 inches. Plug that number in and bingo.

A custom tune would be my route. Get the tire size fixed AND get lots of other improvements like raised shift points, firmer shifts, raised rev limiter, no speed limiter, advanced timing, etc.
