Engine wants to stall at idle

My 5.3 seems to almost stall but doesnt when i turn off the a/c at idle and tranny in Park. It goes from its normal 500rpms to 300-400 rpms, but comes right back up after about 2 seconds. It does the exact same thing when coming to a dead stop after driving but even with the a/c off it happens as well. any comments or thoughts? i plan to do a seafoam tomorrow thru the brake booster and hope that cleans something out.

might wanna check your fuel pressure regulator. Easy to diagnose and fix and fairly inexpensive ($40)

Symtoms of a coked up thottle body. My Escalade did the same thing until I cleaned it. Took 10 minutes to clean and it was back to running normal

Did you just pop off the plastic cover on the engine and use a spray?

Pretty much.

Disconnect the air intake from the throttle body (TB), spray the outside of the TB and wipe clean, gently open the butterfly valve on the front of the TB and spray the general area, let sit for a minute and then wipe clean. Start engine, let idle for a minute or two. When done; Install air intake hose, open beer to celebrate a job well done. It should idle like the day you bought it. Takes 15 minutes, max.

Use TB spray that’s safe for Teflon coatings. Easy to find at any auto parts store, and sells for like $3 a can

Make sure you disconnect the maf sensor or it WILL throw a code. The only problem you have is a clogged air idle inlet. Use AC Delco top end cleaner. It comes in a spray from the stealer. Pretty good deal for what it does though at 10 bucks a can. It is a lot safer that carb cleaner. Carb cleaner will foul your oxygen sensors. Spray the top end cleaner right into the TB.

Thanks for the reply. I didnt remove the MAF and it hasnt thrown a code yet. I got some CRC throttle body spray, soaked that puppy, and that really did the trick. My engine is just like its supposed to be, happy  Thanks guys!
