Westers

I recall seeing a post that had something to do with 2004 8.1L's and WOT under 3,000RPM. I think I remember a Westers customer with a Tahoe that sent the PCM back and forth a couple times due to lack of WOT under 3K RPM. He then posted saying that Lyndon fixed the problem, if my memory serves. I searched a few different ways trying to locate the post(s) but was not succesful. Anyone have any commemts about this ?? Can Westers overcome this issue ? I called Brian in TX and he wasn't sure. I e-mailed Lyndon and his response was something about throttle response and octane ratings. Maybe I did not state the question clearly to him. I called and left a message but have not heard anything.

If anyone has info on this please put in your $.02 - Thanks.

I am ready to order a PCM and also would be interested in hearing from guys that have a Westers tune and an Allison. Seems like there are mixed posts about Westers (or any other tuner) being able to firm up shifts on the Allison due to the seperate controller ??

Thanks for your input. :chevy:

Lyndon does a first class job and you can't beat the after the sale service.

I currently have 4 Chevy trucks under different states of tunes from Westers.

Including an 8.1/alli that has no broblem under 3000 rpm or any other rpm for that matter.

After owning other brands of tunes that I will not name, I'll never go back.

I love mine, if fuel prices would ever drop, I'd get a spicier tune.

IMO, any tune or HH tuner is going to make a vehicle owner happy(ier) if done properly.

I have posted this before and still feel that the TM reduction is the best part of the tune I got. I have talked to people that say it's :chevy: and that there is no way this can be done thru the PCM, it would have to be done thru the TCM. When it comes to this point, I could give a rats @$$ for a pack mule, I just know I'm a happy mofo with my Westers.

My $0.01, cause the MAN'll neva let a brutha have 2!!!!

I think 8100Burb was the poster you are refering to. I believe he was trying two things: WOT under 3K and total removal of TQM. I think westers wa able to get WOT under 3k but total removal of TQM wasn't able to be produced. I may be wrong on this because this is all coming from memory but I do remember they swapped PCM multiple times to get it to work.

How come you wont mention the "other" brands of tune? Im assuming the ones that you are not satisfied with? That doesnt help anybody in the forum who may be considering getting the "other" tunes. I am getting ready to buy a Wait4me tune and how do I know that you are not saying that Wait4me is crap?

When it comes down to a 400 dollar price difference, I think that a couple of horsepower and a half a mile a gallon difference is definately worth the difference in price(for the lesser tune of course).

-Wait4me- $147.77 vs. -Westers-$500.00(approximately).

Westers may be slightly better, but with Wait4me I get to keep my stock pcm and the lesser price, with the same service.

gave20 - Thank you very much, that is the post I was remembering.

After reading it agian I don't think it holds the definitive answer I was looking for. I will have to speak with Lyndon, hopefully I will hear back from him soon.

I will purchase a Wester's even if it is not solved yet, I just like to know what to expect prior to ordering. As for the Wester's/Wait4me question I do not think there is much to compare yet. ALL of Wester's customers say positive things about Lyndon and his absolute commitment to customer satisfaction. That has decided it for me. Wait4me may also achieve this, but until they do, Westers is the right choice for my ride.

Anyone else 'in the know' on this ?? Please let me know.

Thanks again to gave20 for finding the post, it is members like this that make this site what it is.

Stay away from Wester's. It has been over a year of back and forth 4 times from NJ to Canada, over $400 in freight and Lyndon can't get it tuned right. 1st PCM had multiple missfires and threw a trouble code P1571. Lyndon jerked me around for 4 weeks, sending me faxed pages from service manuals to trouble shoot the wiring harness. He insisted that the P1571 code was my fault, that I must have screwed something up during install. What a jerk-off, Its his friggin tune that caused the code P1571. He knew it, he just wanted me to go away. And the missfires are because you cant just swap out your PCM, it requires a crank relearn to get it right, and you can't do it without a Tech 2 scan tool.

Sent MY original PCM to Wester's so he could put his tune on it to eliminate the requirement for the crank relearn and he was going to fix the P1571 code. Yeah sure, he friggin down tuned it to lame, thats how he tried to fix the trouble code. Friggin 8.1L couldn't even do a burnout from a standing stop on a cold morning.

Sent that one back again. Got it back, it hauled ass, but still threw the P1571 code and the shifts were all screwed up.

Sent it back a 3rd time, got it back, fixed the trouble code but it wont up-shift from 4th to 5th at wide open throttle.

Sent Lyndon 2 e-mails, no reply. Called him and he says, whats the problem, re-send your e-mail. Called him again and Lyndon answers the phone but dosn't reply to my request to fix it and pay the freight. He just sits silent on the phone and ignores me.

This is how Wester's Garage has treated me. Don't think it can't happen to you.

Well, I just spent some time and read a lot of posts, here, and elsewhere in regards to Wester's and other's tuning.

I have read posts both from those with complaints and praise. I have read posts directly from Lyndon and other Tuners addressing individuals on message boards.

I decided to buy a Wester's tune based on my experience with Lyndon on the phone and with Wester's sales reps. I also evaluated some complaints by the experience level of the poster and weighed that against the others and have come to the conclusion that while it is an imperfect science, with some patience even the difficult issues can be resolved.

P.S. Hope my install goes smoothly! :D

I'm confused, a P1571 code is a traction control malfunction code, generally caused by a circuit malfunction. The Traction control system is controlled by the ABS braking system, not the PCM. It has nothing to do with misfires.

The Mafs has allot to do with tranny shifting, sounds like you may have a fault there. Dirty or defective, it can make the tranny behave erratically.

I don't know what tranny you have, but i don't know of any made by GM that will upshift into top OD gear at WOT. You need to back off the gas for it to upshift.
