2006 XM \ Onstar Antenna

Recommended Posts

Has anyone looked into installing the new antenna for this years model.. As I come to understand it dual purpose for the XM and the Onstar..The only reason I ask is I would like to install the OEM XM kit and I would much rather replace the one I have now on the truck and eliminate drilling the 2nd hole... Thanks in advance!!!

It would probably depend on what OnStar system you have. If you have a LATE 2004 truck or 2005 with the digital CDMA OnStar system (generation 6), than the new "shark fin" antenna SHOULD work perfectly. I say this becauase the digital and analog onstar antennas operate on different frequencies IIRC. So the new digital OnStar "shark fin" antenna would most likely NOT work with older analog OnStar systems, but should work on the late 2004 and all 2005 trucks with the digital system.

I just mounted one on my '03 S-10. It was scary drilling basically a 3/4" hole in the roof of my truck, but it looks great! I think I posted some information about it on my site, http://www.onstarforum.com

(edit)

The antenna is made by Receptec (http://www.receptec.net/) and is called a four-band antenna. It requires two holes to be drilled into the roof of your vehicle, one 19mm main hole, and a 5mm locating pin hole, which is the same basic setup as the previous roof mount antennas except the main hole is larger on this one. If you have an existing OnStar or XM antenna you'd need to enlarge the hole. Also, if your XM module is the dual antenna pre-2004 model, you will need a converter to allow for a single cable XM antenna. If you are an 04+ XMer with the single yellow jack on your box then you're set!

You need two part numbers:

Base 25773456 $88.19 on GMPD, $176.39 list

Mast 25758073 $7.55 on GMPD, $15.09 list

You just take the little blue plug out of the base, screw the mast in with a hex key and you're done.
