Stalled 8.1

Got a problem here and i'm freaked to even drive the truck. Last night i am driving along fine and the red 'battery' icon suddenly flashes and the motor immediately dies. Friday night this happened sitting at an intersection and caused a back-up in the street when i was stuck and the light went green. I freaked! Cranked it over several times, nothing happens... Tried several more times... Pop the hood to do something and finally it fired up and i drove home sweating bullets.

This was the 2ed time this happened-- the other was wednesday evening going down the highway the red battery icon flashed and the motor died momentarily, then fired up. This happened at 65 mph! Scary...

I'm afraid to drive now until i can review my manual, but any ideas out there?

Any ideas about the battery light coming on and the motor suddenly then dying? The battery is at `12.5 volts according to the meter.

The battery icon comes on anytime the engine is off with the key on. Your engine shut off because the crank sensor is going out and it dropped signal for long enough that the PCM said "I'm out, I can't tell where the crank is anymore."

It's common on these engines with the early crank sensor.

thanks to all that replied. she goes 'under the knife' tomorrow and i'll report the findings... For now i gotta drive the Jeep, and that isn't so bad, but it won't go above 45 mph and being all open meant a very cold commute this morning! I miss my truck!

Thanks for all the ideas-- ur right. A new crank sensor and $300 later, she is running like a champ. No more worry it'll stall on the freeway, like last week...

That thing was a real mutha to replace...
