the service 4wd lights comes on in only 4hi or low, but when it does come on i am not able to take it out of 4wd back to 2hi or even change between the 4 hi or low. the only way to take it out of 4wd is to shut off the truck and then just turn the key to on position i can then select 2 hi, then i start the engine. there or no vibrations or noises and i have noticed that when the service 4wd light is NOT on i can switch back fourth between the 2hi or 4hi or 4low with ease.

I voted updating computer, because it doesn't sound like most peoples switch failure symptoms, I would start with whatever is cheaper to fix/try.

so should i a least just try soldering the leads on the switch since that would be the cheapest and easiest way.

When I opened mine up to replace light bulbs, I don't remember alot of leads to solder, I fried it anyways, maybe look at a salvage yard for one, swap it out see if that fixes it. If not then you could try reprogramming, if you aren't under warranty they will probably charge you unless you are hot chick! :chevrolet:

I was getting the light periodically.

I took the switch out and resoldered all the connections almost a year ago.

Haven't had the light come on since.

I don't remember it being that difficult - took about 10 minutes IIRC.

If it works, its probably the cheapest possible fix...
