What's a "thrust alignment"

Recommended Posts

My suburban (2001/2wd) needs an alignment. My tire shop does a "thrust alignment" with a laser aligning system (I don't know the system's model and I'm going to have to assume it's well calibrated). Is a "thrust" alignment different than just a plain old "alignment" (if so, is it worse)?

Also, is it true that I only need a front end alignment (is the rear even adjustable)?

Thanks as always!

I believe a thrust alignment should be done because you have no rear adjustment. It should make sure the rear wheels/axle is tracking properly so you are not "crabbing" down the road with the fronts and rears off center. A thrust alignment should be more complete than just a front end alignment.

Maybe somebody with more alignment experience can describe it better.

thats half right :chevy: Yes the rear is not adjustable so its just a front wheel alignment. Thrustline means if the truck is "dog tracking" or "crabbing" as you put it the steering wheel will still be straight. But it will still dog track because that a problem in the rear and its not adjustable.
