Mechanically it is still the same LQ4 Vortec 6000 used in the 2500's. I thought it always was 335HP and 375 lbft of torque in when used in a Yukon Denali and Denial XL. It was in 2005. The difference between the trucks must be programming and or exhaust.

hrm... then it must have changed in 05? My 04 has 320HP. Didnt really pay attention until I was looking at some 06 brochures and saw the increase.

Actually, all the denali's went to the LQ9 in '05 and are rated at 345 hp. It's the same engine code that the SS and Escalades use.

According to GM, it's 335HP/375lb-ft for the Yukon Denali and 345HP/380lb-ft for the Sierra Denali.

Really, GM's PowerTrain Division only shows the LQ4 in both Yukon Denali's for 2006 also.

to Mungo....No the 2005 & 2006 still have the LQ4, you have been misinformed....only the Escalades - SS have the LQ9....

for most part the 5-10 horsepower increases each year from about 2002 are slight improvements to exhaust, intakes, cyl heads, and the like.....many horsepower changes the owner would not feel the difference......the standard 6.0 LQ4 has been the standard OEM in all Denali since 2000...........

thanks... you wouldnt have confirmations on exactly what changed after 04 do you? Im thinking 10 more lb-ft of torque would be noticeable when Im towing.... <shrug>

Well the 2004 (I have a Yukon Denali) had 325HP & 365Ft Lb....I know they improved cylinder head flow, & exhaust flow, they changed computer timing advance to kick the torq a bit, they also changed the overlap of the cam to increase air flow....10 ft lbs of Torq is good, but agian, whether you would notice it in the seat of your pants is so so.....some of the aftermarket tuners will ad up to 35 ft lbs...either way the Denali should do a great job of towing anything up to say 6500 lbs...after that, go for the 2500/3500 series and the 8.1

But the heads and cam are still the same old part #'s from the HD's according to my repair manuals.

I was not misinformed at all, but I did make an incorrect assumption in assuming that ALL Denali's went to the LQ9. My '05 SD, and all other '05 and '06 sierra denali's, have the LQ9 as stated in the RPO codes in the glove.

And as far as gas, my manual ask for 91.

I have an '05 Yukon Denali and my numbers say 335hp/375ftlb trq -- it runs on regular gas just fine.

Mungo is correct. The SIERRA Denali's changed to the 345HP LQ9 in 2005, and use it in 2006 too. The only mechanical difference between the LQ4 and the LQ9 is the compression ratio. The LQ9 has .6 more compression derived from different pistons and rods. All other engine parts are the same, heads, valves, cam, intake, everything's the same.

The Sierra Denali's before 2005 had the 325HP LQ4 in every year, including the 2001 GMC C3, which was the daddy of the Sierra Denali, basically the first Sierra Denali with a different name.

OK... so 2005+ YUKON Denalis also went to the LQ9? Meaning they all now require premium fuel??
