Im new to this board and to chevy's im purchasing a 2005 ext cab, 4x4, 5.3 v8 truck tommorow. It has the stock stereo. How bad is the sound and what should i expect. Also how hard is it to upgrade to bose. Is it just a matter of an amp and speakers?

First and foremost, welcome to the forums. :banghead:

Second, don't upgrade to Bose, you can get better sound for cheaper with aftermarket components.

How much are you looking to spend?

If that's all the money you're going to spend on the stereo, just go buy a decent set of component speakers for the fronts, and a good pair of 4 x 6 coaxials for the rear doors. You should be able to pick up a decent set of both for less than $300 or so. But that's kind of pushing it. You'll get 12 differing opinions from 10 different people on what brand to buy on that. Best bet is to go into your local audio shop and listen to a bunch of them and decide for yourself what you like.

Bose is a complete system, you'd have to buy all the amps, speakers, harness, and head unit for it to work...Heck, you'd probably have to have your PCM flashed as well in order to recognize it. Not sure about that part though.

I probably spent close to $1000 more than what you're looking at though. But if you're just replacing mids/tweets, you won't need the amps, or the 2 10" subs  That's where a lot of the $$ comes in. :banghead:

Well i will save up some more i just want a decent sounding vehicle with a lil bass doesnt have to be a ton, i have a jeep (which is always broke) it has the infinity and it sounds decent for factory that would be a good starting point or maybe i'll just go the route and install componets up front tweets, and a crossover and some good rear speakers with a 4 channel amp to run them all. Of course this will run more than 300. I found out that according to the rpo's for my vehicle i will have the aluminium block is this a good thing.
