Faster than 100MPH

I have a 79GMC with a 454BB and I can only go 100MPH and would like to go faster then that speed.I was thinking about 160.WHat can I do to reach this speen I was thinkging about streching the Trans but maby there is some other things i can do to reach 160MPH.

First of all, you can only go 100 because of the governor?

Second, you will never get your pick up to do 160mph because of the limited power and the coefficient of drag. You'd be lucky to get 125 with some mods.

First of all, you're going to need a stronger windshield. Will it hold up? Maybe. You willing to take the chance of your windshield shattering in your face at that speed.. Your truck was NOT built for that speed. You'll need new wheels and tires, larger wheels and smaller tires, so as to attain a higher speed rating. What you've got on it now is probably rated for 112 max. Next you'll need a new transmission, because you're going to need a LOT more power than the stocker will take.

Now, get out our check book. You'll need a new engine. Big one. With a turbo/super charger. The biggest you can find.

Now, you'll need a long, flat straightaway. Possibly even the salt flats. The suspension on your truck will NOT keep it stable on regular highway at that speed.

Believe me, you don't want to spend that kind of money =).

If you want to go 160 mph get a 1990 or later Corvette and with fresh tires its a breeze. Save the truck for work thats what its designed for.

Better get speed rated tires and some massive brakes.

Three or Four JATO units, lotsa duct tape, and a pre-paid funeral plan should about do it.

MY Truck is running a 454BB with a 400 trans.What ever else I need is all at the Jegs or summit wear house waithingt for me to give them a call.and order it.

Be real, if you spent mega $$ and made 800 HP you still wouldn't get 160mph. A truck is limited by it's shape.

I can take most off the line and even at 70mph i can out gun them but that perfomance stops at about 95mph, after that there's just too much resistance.

If you want to do 160 you'll need to change body shape as much as increase power.

Now 120? that's a good number!

Not really time to look at faces at 140.

Anyway 700+ HP probably closer to 1000. A 6 speed and probaly 2.80 gears or so. Next a roll cage and major brake upgrades. Springs and shocks need upgraded. Then a little areo work. Should be able to accomplish it for 30-50 grand doing most the work yourself. Only thing I ask is get it video taped. It'll look cool at your and whomever you kills funeral.

Ok Now that everyone is telling me that 160 is a speed that can kill me.I guess i will have to leve it to my step dads brother Chevell.Ok real what can i do to get me going 120 or 130 that is a better speed that should be kewl with everyone.I wana make the Truck look as Stock as possible while going fast.When you got a 79GMC sierra classic that were only a few hundred made and has a greater Blue book value then most 79 GMC sierra classic Stock and still looks good like the day it was bought.
