LT1 into a 2003 Yukon?

How hard would it be to swap a '93 LT1 into a 2003 Yukon?

The '93 is speed density and uses the 700R4 (4L60 non-electric) tranny.

I'm thinking about swapping the 383 LT1 and PCM out of my Camaro into the truck and putting a newer LS2 into the Camaro. Would I need a 94+ F-body PCM to work with the truck's 4L60E or would I have to swap in a 700R4 into the truck?

Or would it be easier to swap the LS2 into the truck and leave the camaro alone?

The LT-1 is an engine designed for a 3300lb vehicle and putting it in a 4600lb vehicle will cause you a lot of programing problems and never will do the job you want. If you want a better performing truck your best bet is a crate motor.

Pretty tough. It would be ten times easier to swap an LS1 or LS1-derived engine into your truck than an LT1 or older style small block. The LS1 motors share a common block design(externally) with the engine already in your Yukon.

LT1 engines are based off of the traditional small block engine design. While the engine could work with your 4L60E, the input shaft on your tranny would have to be changed. You'd have to have custom motor mounts, headers, engine brackets, a custom wiring harness made, etc... just to name a few. A lot of work to go back a step to an older engine design.

Long story short. I'd sell your camaro with the LT1 in it and modify the 4.8 or 5.3L in your Yukon now (or swap in an LS motor - LS1, LS2, LS6).

An LS-1 or LS-2 would be the best choice since they would just bolt in. The LT-1 Gen 2 will not since the motor mounts are different.

very easily done, but no reason to go backward in technology.

zippy,

Have you ever done an engine swap between the G2 & G3? Just the motor mount brackets to the frame are a handful. The two generations of engines are not a bolt in.
