Why must we have to log into the site now just to view forums? Some of us maybe sneaking in here on a break from work and do not want to log in every time. :chevrolet::flag:

It's something we do from time to time when traffic from guests gets high.

We'll switch it back sometime soon.

Just wait until your work starts blocking certain domains....then it gets real fun. At my old work they had us on lock down, but yet eBay was wide open! :chevrolet:

In regards to the logging in, I'm sorry it doesn't sit well with some people but I have to say maybe that is a good thing. Of all the sites I visit this one takes the longest to load by far. But with 18,000+ members I guess that is to be expected.

Still a great site!

It depends on how your computer and network is setup. Like with me once I get logged in the first time I stay logged in even when I leave and come back 2 days later. Best way to see is log yourself in and just leave the site and come back either a couple hours or a day later.

Have a great day.

Yeah, it seems guest traffic has been pretty high around here lately. Better sure make sure only MEMBERS log into to read the forums to help validate the claimed member count…..or help encourage and grow new memberships for advertising purposes

Some of the others made a good point about not having to log in each time they visit. I don't either, but I have my cookies set so they do not need refreshed each time I come here. Perhaps you need to tweak yours? What browser are you using, and perhaps I can provide you some step by step instructions on how to setup properly?

If you don't use Mozilla Firefox, do yourself a favor and download it. It's free, powerful and has TABBED BROWSING...perhaps the best thing since sliced bread.

For those that do not dump cookies everyday this is not an issue. I work in the automotive industry and travel coast to coast for my job each week. This also means I usually connect to the Internet from different hotels or sites almost everyday when I am not in my office. My machine is set up to automatically dump cookies, temp internet files, and history at the stoke of midnight eastern time so there I am logging in when I visit this site. When I have time for research on the net, I visit several GM and industry related sites and forums almost on a daily basis and this is the only one that requires a login to VIEW forums. This makes me feel something is going on to cultivate more memberships for advertising purpose$’$ or this site is validating active memberships. I really do not care which it is but the high traffic excuse I am not buying. I only brought it up because it is quite annoying and not a good marketing exercise by this webmaster. Hosting these hot and in demand forums is not cheap, but honesty goes along way for an explanation as to why a log in is required these days. Each click = $$ to somebody, somewhere. High traffic is not one of them.

Larry,

You are correct. We're trying to get some of those guests to register. The more registered users you have, the more attention from potential advertisers.

Yesterday I changed it back to the "old" way...

Traffic

Here we go again……..New and active memberships must be down so everybody must log in to view the forums yet again in an effort to cultivate more new memberships. I don’t know about you all but I avoid the forums that require a membership just to view. I have been a member here for over 5 years and really do not see a need to log in everytime I want to view the forums.

I'm sure if you want to pay the bandwidth bills the Admin would have no issue turning on all the guest viewing you like. Have you seen the price of bandwidth lately? I have no issue with sites like these doing what they find works to generate more members and thus more and better, higher paying advertisers. I'd much rather it be like that than to pay a membership fee.

Yea, Firefox rules, but now the new IE 7 has tabbed browsing too. It's pretty buggy though. Firefox is still my primary browser for now.
