Idler arm rebuild kit

My idler arm seems to be moving upand down a little and has grease all over it. Do they make a rebuild kit, or do I have to buy a whole new one?

As far as I know, you have to buy a new one.

I don't think I've ever even heard of rebuilding one.

If you have oversized tires, or drive pretty hard, you might want to look into getting a heavier duty part like Moog, or something along those lines. They cost a bit more, but are twice as beefy.

They are replace only. Ditto Wingnuts suggestion on Moog HD. That's what I used to rebuild the front end and they are beefier parts compared to stock.

Anyone have a P/N and/or online source for the Moog parts?

I replaced my idler about a year ago, and I'm starting to feel some slop in the front end again. Its probably worn out, despite being greased every couple of months. I used a GM replacement last time. Don't think I'll go down that road again.

I need to replace mine as well. Since we're talking about front end parts, do any of you know anything about TRW parts? Are they any good? They come with a life time warranty from Advance Auto. How do they compare with Moog?

Thanks

I went to Federal Mogul's online catalog for my 2k Sierra

They list a couple of idler-related parts:

Moog:

Idler Arm Bushing/Kit

IDLER ARM BRKT/ PIVOT ASSM K6659 99-02

TRW:

Idler Arm Bushing/Kit

BRACKET PIVOT ASSM 190177 99-02

All their idler arms are listed for four-wheel steering and don't come with the mount to the frame:

(moog)

Idler Arm

EXT CAB - 4 WHL STEERING - IMPROVED DESIGN - w/o FRAME BRKT K6534 99-02

Idler Arm

CREW CAB - 4 WHL STEERING - IMPROVED DESIGN - w/o FRAME BRKT K6535 99-02

This is RockAuto's listing:

Toyota had a kit for their trucks to rebuild them. I didn't know if Chevy had one. I have a vibration in the right front, and some sloppy wondering steering espeically in winds. All I could see from getting under it is the arm is lifting up a little under load. Well guess I will be replacing the entire thing. I have 285 tires, but this was going on back with my 265s too.

Also, what part is actually going bad?

The Idler Arm or the Bracket Pivot Assembly?

Do you need to replace them both?

IIRC, the whole thing comes as a unit from GM.

Looks like you can choose only the bad portion if you go with Moog/TRW.

Although I wonder if the Moog/TRW parts are compatible with the remaining GM piece - I assume so.
