How do you know when power steering is going out.

Hey everybody, I have a dilemma, my wife is driving the 01 pickup, it has 73,000 miles and she called tonight and said that the steering is making a clicking noise, I seriously do not know what she is talking about. How can you tell when power steering is going out. I just think it is cold natured, because it is only around 15 degrees here in MO.

The pump could be alittle louder when cold. Post again after you know what she is talking about.

The wife got home tonight and here is what is going on. The steering wheel squeeks, the noise is inside the cab, it just started it today. I personally think its because its so cold outside, I was going to wait until it warms up to see what happens then. Does anybody think that squeeking from the steering wheel is anything major? And is there a fix for it if doesnt go away?
