93 Gmc Yukon...aftermarket cams...help

Recommended Posts

Well, I have a 1993 GMC YUKON, 2door, 4x4...so far I have put a new exhaust on. 3" with Dynomax Bullet Muffler. (Gonna grab high flow cat soon)

Also have a Hypertech ThermoMaster chip, 160 stat, and a PowerAid TBI spacer.

Im looking into getting a new cam for it now except I cant find the factory specs on the cam in it, and I am not sure what cams I can get for it.  If anyone could help me out, that would be great!

I have a custom ground roller cam I put in my 95' Tahoe, and I gained some nice torque, but I was a little dissappointed with the power.  I put Trick Flow aluminum heads on also with a custom chip and JBA shorty headers.  I still have my catalytic converter on.  It feels more powerful, but its not as fast as I was hoping for.  I picked up a lot of torque because I can tow a 3500pd boat easy now and my truck almost never has to downshift on the highway except on real big hills.  It used to have to downshift to handle any decent hill.  I have 3.42 gears by the way.

One of the problems I've heard with TBI 350's is the computer can't adjust for a cam with a lot of duration.  So your limited to a smaller cam.  I don't know what the cutoff is, but my cam in my truck is a fairly small cam.

To be honest, if I was going to do it over again, I wouldn't have put the heads/cam in the TBI 350, and I would have dropped an LT1 350 in it.  You can use the LT1 computer with the factory transmission since their both 4L60E's (though wiring did vary a little between years) and you can use a corvette accessory bracket to mount your accessories on.  The only real modification you have to make is to notch the frame rail for the alternator- don't quote me on that since I've never done it, but thats what I've heard.  Street & Performance is a great place to get info on doing this swap.  I think Pacific Audio also has experience with this (www.pacific-audio.com).

Overall though, I was hoping for more power with the parts I installed.  Part of that could be that my truck weighs so much though  :0

If you want, I have an article with recommended cams for a TBI 350, and I could post the cams up here.  I won't be home for another week or so, but I can find it then if your interested.
