I am soo cunfused. I have an '04 Silverado 4x4 with 60K and need brakes. I am not a moroon and think I can tell when I need brakes. I have very little brake pressure. My foot in nearly to the floor before I slow down..alot of mush. So I took it to the dealer and the service guy tells me I don't need brakes and that they are like new. I am sooo confused. Is this typical for this model of truck? Can anyone help me? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Also I brought it in for a cluck sound that can be heard between 2-3 shift(truck is an automatic.) They claimed they didn't hear it. Does anyone know what can be causing the cluck? Driveshaft?

I think the "clunking" noise you are refering to has been talked about in here before...as for the brake issue did the dealer actually look at the brakes of just drive it

Mine are all grooved on the front and squeal everytime I stop, I hate it especially since I only have 24K. The pedal is firm though and all of the pre '05 1/2 tons I've driven all have a mushy brake feel from what I've experienced.

Soft pedal could mean air in system or boiled fluid at one time. I would start with a flush/bleed.....which I do every year. Brake fluid attracts moisture and will boil when you hit the brakes causing spongy pedal and can cause corrosion in the braking system. ALso crack the bleeder screw on the caliper before pushing the pistons back in otherwise you can push contaminates (dirt, rust) into the abs circuit and that is a big dollar item to replace!
