Recommended Posts

Just wanting to know if anyone had drilled and tapped an aluminum oil pan before with it on the truck..   and not leaking, i know that oil pan needs to be rinsed out afterwards, was going to use the old oil that came out of the turck, just pour it thorugh.

Man if I was you I'd pull the pan.  I think you are asking for troubles doing it on the truck.

What happened?  did you strip out the drain plug and you want to go oversize now?

Tapping a hole creates alot of shavings that will inevitably be left in the pan.  They won't drain out with the oil.  You could hope they would get trapped by the filter, but they could actually get "splashed" up into the bottom end of the motor.

My opinion is to pull the pan, fix it, and replace it with a new gasket.

I agree! Pull the pan. You may be able to flush the shavings out and what's left might jaust lay down and not cause any problems but it isn't worth the risk.
