If an O2 sensor has a rattle when you pound on the pipe with your hand, should it be replaced? Also do you have any suggestions on how to address this with dealership mechanics that claim they cant hear the rattle? I guess while we are at this do you think this should be covered by GM's Major Gaurd?

Appreciate your help.

It doesn't affect it's operation, so I'd say no. If it was under warranty and a customer complained of a rattle and that's what it was, we'd replace it.

Will GMPP cover it for a rattle? Probably not, but when we call the claim in for approval, it's a computerized system and it doesn't ask what's wrong with the o2. We put the op code in for an o2 and if it's a covered item (which it is), it would be approved.

NOW, if the GMPP rep comes in and does a review of repairs they've paid for and sees that there was really nothing wrong with the o2, that it was performing its function, but the shield around it rattled, he'd probably debit the claim. In other words, the dealer would pay to fix your truck. Are they willing to take that chance? I can't answer that.
