Holden Suburban advice in Australia

Hi, Not sure if this is the place to ask such questions but I will.

Just test drove a 1998 Holden Suburban (rebadged Chev suburban) down here in South Australia and was just wondering if there is any advice I should consider when purchasing one of these. It is a 6.4 turbo diesel, blows a bit of smoke, and man is it noisy, and of course it is right hand drive. I was a bit surprised how noisy , it was my other option is a 5.7 petrol I assume they are a bit quieter???

It's a 2500 LS model.

Any advice, comments, questions, abuse is welcome.

The 5.7 is much quieter, and is strong and reliable. The 6.4 diesel is much better for towing, but costs a fortune to repair when you can find a anyone who really knows anything about them. The 5.7 is probably a better choice unless you are towing heavy a lot.

I thought that would be the case I have decided not to go ahead withe the deso suburban but will look around for one with a 5.7 pety. Had a 5.7 in a Holden Monaro a while back and that was pretty sweet.
