fuel pressure regulator

Hi,

So today, I removed the upper intake manifold from my 2000 GMC SAVANA 2500 with a 5.0L in order to replace the fuel pressure regulator (older models required removal of upper intake manifold to replace the F.P.R.) and I now have 1 question. The fuel pressure regulator is connected on 1 side to the fuel metering system yet there was no tube on the vacuum inlet/outlet (not sure) of the fuel pressure regulator. Is this the way it is supposed to be? On newer models of fuel pressure regulators, there is a vacuum line attached to one side, but on this one when I removed the upper intake manifold there was one side that wasn't connected to anything. Anyway the side that wasn't connected to anything (a small narrow "L" shaped tube was pretty clogged up. Does anyone know if perhaps a tube had fallen off or something? Thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks Again,

Luke

Thanks for the reply 97chevy350, thats what I thought. After replacing the FPR, truck still runs rough and is hard to start when hot, but I think it cured the running rich and black smoke problem. Could my distributor be going south? I already changed the plugs, wires, rotor, cap, fuel filter and PCV valve with original AC DELCO parts but still no luck. It doesn't run as rich as before but it can barely idle (hunting when cold, sputters and wants to die when warmed up). After shutting it off warm, you need to give it some gas while cranking to start it, when it starts the rough idle continues. Occasional miss but overall sounds ok at high rpms while in park. No power in gear though.

I just had a similar problem with mine, ended up spending about 400 until i found the problem, one of the pcm wires was just a little bit unplugged. I think your problem is mostlikely the EGR valve, which was a part of my problem. Its on the front of the motor above the bypass hose. Take it off and clean it out really good with brake cleaner. Pretty much took care of it for me. If that doesnt take care of it you may need a new one. About 170 bucks from a RETAIL store. So try to get it good and clean!
