Hey there whats up, just wanted to put some pics out there of my truck. Even though the truck is almost 14 years old, i still love it. i bought it in 96 with 30k on the odometer. its up to 130k now and on its 3rd transmission, which needs to be replaced. i want some reccomendations as to what transmission to use, but ill post that elsewhere on this forum. The truck now serves as our lake truck towing boats, trailers and such.

cheers.

Wow, now there's something we don't see here very often. Nice Yukon.

I'd say ask one of our mods that has a '92 Blazer Z71: Wingnut.

Since yours and his are essentially the same without knowing other details, he'd probably know what you can do.

Those are great pics man!

Want that tranny to last? Put smaller tires on it and quit towing anything more than a jetski. :fume:

Seriously, if you want a transmission that will last under heavier loads, you're going to have to take it to a specialist and have it beefed up.

I'm crossing my fingers...I've got 156k on my '92, and it's still going strong.

theres no way i would put smaller tires on it, plus they are only 32's. Like i said, i will drive it into the ground again, then plan on putting a better transmission in it. Just last week i towed a 5000 lb+ boat, and it towed great.

of course if i had unlimited funds i would put the Yukon chassis on a 2500 HD frame with Alli transmission.

Yeah, I've towed a 6k boat with mine, and while it towed great, the shortness of the wheelbase makes it a bit unstable at higher speeds.

I'm with you on the tires...I was just being sarcastic.

The transmissions on these trucks is definately the weak spot in the driveline.

I am guessing it has the 700R4 ? ? ?

That unit is a decient unit so long as the rebuilding shop takes it's time to do every GM upgrade suggested through out the service life of the unit..If your local shop needed 3 units in your blazer i would go get a GM replacement unit or a Jasper , Of course the GM carries 3/36 on it usually which is a good thing. . .

By the way nice ride here is mine

What size wheels are those? I'm looking for new ones for my Tahoe and trying to get an idea of how different widths will look.

My 92 Burb K1500 has 233,000 miles on it. I bought it in 1998 with 72K on it. Now I dont know if it was rebuilt before I got it with 72K on it but I doubt it. even if it was rebuilt before I got it that means Ive put a minimum of 165K on this trans alone. so how did I do it when I have the same Th700R trans you have. Well each spring when I start rowing my boat consistently and at the and of each summer I do a trans fluid and filter change. Then every other year I get the trans system power flushed. I changed my radiator before it busted or got clogged as typically after about 100K on a radiator it only has about 50-60% of it cooling capabilities (When my trcuk hit 100K I got a new one and when it hit 200K I got a new one again) This may sound overkill but when you have worked in a radiator shop you will understand). Oil has always gotten changed every 2500-3000 miles. Both the frequent trans fluid and oil changes are goona keep temps down....and then the radiatir of course is gonna keep trans temps down too. Of course be sure you are equipped witha large trans cooler, which your truck should have one from the fatory. Finally and most significantly its ok to do 70-75 down the interstate, but when in town accelerate at a moderate to slow pace as hard accelerations will burn that trans up faster than anything. Finally when you go for your next rebuild look only to a trans shop that does high performance work, have them map out all the upgrades they are gonna do (corvette servo etc) and pay for whatever upgrades they can offer. Im sure you knew most of this but maybe someone else looking at your nice truck didnt.
